I'd like Salesforce to provide a native application (or mobile web page/interface) which allows Salesforce Administrators to perform routine system/user changes via a mobile device such as an iPhone. Several examples of this would include resetting a user's password, deactivating a user, changing a user's Role or Profile, modifying an entire Role or Profile, and monitoring system logs. Salesforce administrators sometimes called upon to make changes quickly, when a laptop and Internet connection are not immediately available. In most cases though, a mobile phone is in hand. An immediate change could be made with such a device using the existing connection. A real life example for me happened last week. I had turned off visibility to the Cases tab for all users but administrators and operations. Our users now use a Visualforce page to submit cases. I had mistakenly taken the tab away from one group of superusers who needed access to the standard case tab for other reasons. The problem was, I was aboard public transportation, with no laptop at hand. I was, however, able to activate the IP address of my iPhone, log into Salesforce, and add the Cases tab back to that Profile, all through Safari, on the iPhone, immediately. They could once again, continue their work. While some functions such as the one I described above can be done in Safari on the iPhone, it's not optimized for it in any way, and the browser will sometimes crash. Other administrative features such as the new Enhanced Page Layout Editor, I don't really expect to work via the iPhone, but I tried anyway. No real surprise, it was not able to function. There are however, some very valuable functions that could be made available to administrators via such an application/interface. While I realize there are far fewer administrators of Salesforce than there are users, this feature could provide a great benefit to at least one person at 51,800 organizations. One final request on such a feature though would be that it not be a licensed feature which requires a Salesforce Mobile license. This feature should not be tied to the Mobile client licensing. Many organizations which may never purchase Salesforce Mobile would gain from this feature being given to their administrator.
