  Help Text for Standard Fields Delivered in Winter '10

  
  
  The Help Text feature for custom fields is incredibly helpful for the overall usability of Salesforce. CRM has a lot going on, and the ability to present information about the use of a field directly in the interface is great. But, some of the most critical fields are standard fields, and we can't create Help Text for those fields. Opportunity fields like Stage are complex and need explaining to insure uniform use.   Allow Help Text on Related Lists or views

  1) The Help Text on custom fields is saving me time already - no more "what's that field for" questions. However, you can only see the help text if you open the record. My users frequently look at a related list of opportunities under an account and are unsure about a field. Wouldn't it be great to be able to see the help text for the column headings? 2) The new functionality allowing records to be edited in a View is a huge step forward, and we're particularly using them for cleaning up missing data - wouldn't it be great to have some guidance in the form of help text available on those columns too? Of course, I also want these to be combined with the ability to add help text to standard fields (see http://ideas.salesforce.com/article/show/98366/Help_Text_for_Standard_Fields) and the option to show help text on a click, rather than a mousover (see http://ideas.salesforce.com/article/show/10092615/Help_Text_on_mouse_click_rather_than_on_mouse_over)

  Customize Standard Field

  Have option to customize standard fields. At the very least be able to change whether a standard field is required or not.

  Fixed Text areas within Page Layouts

  It would be useful if fixed text areas could be added to page layouts. For example, placing a text prompt beneath an Opportunity Name to remind users that the Opp Name should be formatted to the organisation's standards - [ Please enter Opp Name in this format: "Account - Close Date" ]
